NexGard Spectra is a new once a month, chewable tablet for the effective control of fleas, ticks, heartworm and intestinal worms for dogs and puppies. NexGard Spectra combines two active ingredients (Afoxolaner and Milbemycin Oxime) for protection against the most common internal and external parasites of dogs. It comes as an easy to administer, tasty, beef-flavoured chew. It can be used on puppies over 4.4lbs in weight and from 8 weeks of age.
NexGard Spectra contains the following active ingredients: Afoxolaner and Milbemycin Oxime.
Afoxolaner is an ectoparasiticide, meaning it targets external parasites such as fleas, ticks, and mites. It effectively kills fleas before they can lay eggs, helping to reduce contamination of the dog's environment. Afoxolaner is also highly effective against various types of ticks, including paralysis ticks, bush ticks, and brown dog ticks.
Milbemycin Oxime serves as an endo parasiticide, targeting internal parasites such as worms that reside inside dogs. It is effective against different types of worms, including roundworms, hookworms, and whipworms. Milbemycin Oxime helps in preventing and controlling these internal parasites in dogs.
NexGard Spectra, like any medication, may have potential side effects. While not all dogs experience them, some possible adverse reactions to NexGard Spectra may include:
Gastrointestinal Disturbances: Common side effects may involve mild digestive issues such as vomiting, diarrhea, or decreased appetite. These symptoms are usually temporary and resolve on their own.
Dermal Reactions: In some cases, dogs may exhibit skin-related reactions like itchiness, redness, or rash. If these symptoms persist or worsen, it is advisable to consult with a veterinarian.
Neurological Effects: Although rare, certain dogs may have neurological symptoms such as tremors, instability, or seizures. If any of these signs occur, immediate veterinary attention is necessary.
It's important to note that these side effects are not exhaustive, and there may be other less common reactions. If you notice any unusual or severe symptoms after administering NexGard Spectra to your dog, it is crucial to contact your veterinarian for guidance and assistance.
