Directions for Use

Fasting prior to dosing is not necessary

It is essential to weigh dogs before treatment.

For intestinal worms, Drontal is given as a single dose by mouth.

DOSAGE

See dosing recommendations below.

Bodyweight                        Tablets

44-77 lbs                              1

78-114 lbs                            1 ½

115-154 lbs                           2

155-192 lbs                           2 ½

Over 192 lbs                          3

If worm problems persist, consult a veterinarian.

For Giardia infection: Administer the above dosage for three consecutive days. Drontal should only be used when a Giardia sp. Infection has been diagnosed by a veterinarian.

TREATMENT RECOMMENDATIONS

Hydatid Tapeworm

A single dose of Drontal is all that is required. Dogs in hydatid areas should be treated every 6 weeks to ensure that newly acquired hydatid tapeworms are expelled before reaching maturity.

Hookworms & Roundworms

Dogs & Puppies: Treat at 2, 4, 8 and 12 weeks and then every month until six months of age; thereafter every 3 months or on veterinary advice.

Pregnant bitches: Treat prior to mating, then 10 days before whelping and at 2 and 4 weeks after whelping.

Whipworms & Tapeworms

Treat every three months except in hydatid tapeworm areas where every six weeks is recommended, or on veterinary advice. Dogs can become reinfested with worms and treatment should be repeated.

Giardia

This protozoan parasite is found commonly in dogs and may be the cause of diarrhoea, particularly in pups. It is more common amongst dogs living in multi-dog households and kennels. Diagnosis of suspected Giardia infection should be confirmed by a veterinary surgeon.

RETREATMENT RECOMMENDATIONS

Worms often reinfest dogs so it is necessary to:

  • Treat the dog itself
  • Reduce environmental contamination by daily disposal of droppings
  • Remove tapeworm intermediate hosts e.g. fleas.

Follow the retreatment recommendations in the table below:

Puppies                                Treat at 2, 4, 8, 12 weeks; then 4, 5, 6 months of age

Adults                                   Treat every 3 months; every 6 weeks in Hydatid infested locations

Pregnant/lactating          Treat prior to mating, 10 days before whelping and at 2 and 4 weeks after whelping

COMPATIBILITY

Drontal may be combined with other treatments, for example heartworm prevention, flea or tick treatment.
