The Seven Symptoms Flea Test

We all know that fleas are horrible pests that can make our fur-friends miserable, uncomfortable and in some extreme cases very sick.  To ensure your pet remains healthy, happy and flea free, take our 'Seven Symptoms Flea Test;' and break the vicious cycle of itching and scratching now.

Does your pet show the following symptoms?  Take the test to find out:

Can you see fleas on your pet?
At their adult size fleas are still very small but they can still be spotted on pets; particularly around the head, neck and tail regions.

Is your pet constantly itching and scratching?
Fleas are parasites and bite your pet’s skin to suck their blood.  These bites can cause inflammation and severe itching, causing your pet to scratch incessantly.

Does your pet chew its tail?
Fleas like to congregate in areas of dense fur; particularly in areas that are difficult for pets to reach.  Along with itching and scratching, constant chewing can also be the result of a flea bite.

Can you see fleas in your house?
95% of adult fleas live around your house and in your pets bedding.  They are very hardy parasites with the extraordinary ability to lay dormant for up to two years.

Is your pet constantly grooming?
Flea Allergy Dermatitis (FAD) is the most common skin disease seen in pets.  An allergic reaction to flea saliva causes cats and dogs to itch, scratch and lick bites incessantly; creating a ceaseless cycle which is very painful.

Is flea dirt present in your pet’s coat?
Part your pet’s fur as you comb behind their ears, neck and hindquarters, to check for the presence of flea excrement. It will appear as brown flecks of dirt in your pet’s fur. Check that it’s not regular dirt by moistening the flecks with water on a paper towel. If the dirt is flea faeces it will smear a reddish-brown colour when wet; which is a distinct sign your pet is suffering from fleas.

Does your pet have skin sores and suffer from hair loss?
Some pets can be hypersensitive to flea bites.  An allergic reaction to fleas can cause inflamed skin and severe hair loss; visible around the base of their tail, rear legs and inner thighs.

If you answered yes to your pet showing any of the above symptoms your pet has fleas; one of the most common external parasites that haunt our beloved fur-friends.  To prevent any further discomfort in your pets, and to get rid of these pesky parasites, order your cat’s monthly flea preventatives and your dog’s monthly flea preventatives from CanadaVet and stop the destructive cycle of fleas now.
