Popantel Allwormer Tablets for Dogs is a tablet for the control of all gastrointestinal worms in dogs including roundworm, hookworm, whipworm and tapeworm (including hydatid tapeworm). Popantel does not control heartworm. Popantel Cat Allwormer Tablets is a tablet for the control of all species of gastrointestinal worms in kittens and cats including roundworm, hookworm and tapeworm. Popantel does not control heartworm.

Directions for Popantel
Weigh dogs and cats before treatment. Dogs and cats are treated by weight with the appropriate sized tablet or combination of tablets. Popantel is given as a single dose by mouth.
Fasting prior to dosing is not necessary for dogs. Popantel is available in two sizes for dogs. One 22 lb tablet for puppies and dogs up to 22 lb and one 88 lb tablet for dogs up to 88 lb. Dogs over 88 lb and other weights are given a combination of the tablets.
Cats should be dosed on an empty stomach. One Popantel Cat Allwormer Tablet treats up to 11 lb in weight. Cats and kittens 5 lb and under should be given ½ tablet, cats 6 – 11 lb should be given 1 tablet and cats over 11 lb should be given 1 tablet per 11 lb of bodyweight.
A common regime for treatment is to worm puppies and kittens every 2 weeks of age from 2 weeks old until 12 weeks, monthly from 3 months until 6 months then every 3 months as an adult. Treat breeding bitches prior to mating then 10 days before whelping and 2 and 4 weeks after whelping.

Side effects of Popantel
The side effects of Popantel are rare at the recommended dosage. Popantel has a wide margin of safety for all sizes and breeds of dogs and cats. It is approved for use in puppies and kittens as young as 2 weeks, old animals, greyhounds, working dogs, pregnant females, breeding females, stud dogs and cats. Popantel may be combined with other treatments, for example heartworm prevention, flea and tick treatments and vaccination.
Do not use in puppies or kittens under 2 weeks of age. This medication should not be used in animals allergic to it.
