Directions for Drontal (Known as Drontal Plus in USA)

Weigh dogs before treatment. Dogs are treated by weight with the appropriate sized tablet or combination of tablets. Drontal is given as a single dose by mouth. Fasting prior to dosing is not necessary. Drontal is available in three sizes. Small dog tablet for puppies and dogs up to 7 lb. Medium dog tablet for puppies and dogs up to 22 lb and Large dog tablet for dogs up to 77 lb. Dogs over 77 lb are given a combination of the tablets.

Weigh cats before treatment. Cats should be dosed according to bodyweight. Drontal is given as a single dose by mouth. Cats should be dosed on an empty stomach. One Drontal Cat Allwormer Tablet treats up to 9 lb in weight. Cats and kittens 4 lb and under should be given ½ tablet, cats 5 – 9 lb should be given 1 tablet and cats over 9 lb should be given 1 tablet per 9 lb of bodyweight.

A common regime for treatment is to worm puppies and kittens every 2 weeks of age from 2 weeks old until 12 weeks, monthly from 3 months until 6 months then every 3 months as an adult. Treat breeding bitches prior to mating then 10 days before whelping and 2 and 4 weeks after whelping.

These recommendations are of a general nature. In specific instances where infestation is particularly heavy or many pets are housed together, a veterinarian should be consulted.

Side effects of Drontal (Known as Drontal Plus in USA)

The side effects of Drontal are rare at the recommended dosage. Drontal has a wide margin of safety for all sizes and breeds of dogs and cats. It is approved for use in puppies and kittens as young as 2 weeks, old animals, greyhounds, working dogs, pregnant females, breeding females, lactating females and stud dogs and cats. Drontal may be combined with other treatments, for example heartworm prevention, flea and tick treatments and vaccination.

Do not use in puppies or kittens under 2 weeks of age. This medication should not be used in animals allergic to it. In case of overdose contact your veterinarian or veterinary emergency room. While rare, symptoms of overdose may include vomiting, loss of appetite, diarrhea and salivation.
